Red Hook
Faculty Association

Archives

This year, the Red Hook Faculty Association was proud to present Annmarie Carey, Lia Michos and Megan Dowling, each with a one-thousand dollar scholarship.  Over thirty students who were nominated submitted essays reflecting on their time at Red Hook High School. The following is a excerpt from Lia Michos' essay:

"My parents have strong values for education; they chose to move to this school district because of the quality of the teaching staff and education.  I have had so many great times in Red Hook that it is hard to summarize- going back to Mrs. Boyd’s class to read to the kindergartners-finding out that you can combine humor and learning with Mrs. Chenevert- realizing my love for German with Frau Horowitz- performing a “cardiac bypass” when studying the heart of a cow in biology lab and having one of those “ah-hah” moments in life (cardiology is a strong interest) – my fear of Mr. Roe that later became tremendous respect for his ability to teach math, despite his hardships – finding my inner with Mrs. Decker in TOK – realizing in my English classes that poetry doesn’t have to be torture – appreciating Russian history (when I thought it would be totally boring) with Mr. Kaiser – absolutely loving basketball – learning that I might be able to open my own medical practice through my Entrepreneurship project with Mr. Nero – finding out that Mr. Sutton is a great listener – eating Chinese food with Mr. Burguiere while working on yearbook – sharing good and bad times with my friends"
